Is the New iPhone Waterproof?
The answer to this question depends on your definition of waterproof. First, you must understand that the iPhone 8 features an IP67 water resistance rating. This means that the iPhone 8 is capable of withstanding immersion in water up to 3.3 feet for a half hour, determined by an iPhone 8 waterproof test in a laboratory. Technically, this means the phone is water resistant and not completely waterproof. The IP67 rating is the second-highest below IP68, which is reserved for phones that can last through long durations of pressurized submersion. One day we may see an iPhone with this highest rating, but not yet.
Does the Water Resistance Last?
It’s important to note that the iPhone 8’s water resistance may deteriorate over time through normal wear and tear. Additionally, it is important to know that pressurized water and salt water can breach the water resistant seal. Just because the phone is technically water resistant does not mean it will be able to withstand all kinds of liquids throughout the course of its use.
Is There a Warranty?
Even though Apple touts the phone as being water resistant, your phone is not protected in the event of liquid damage. Don’t assume Apple will replace your phone if it gets damaged by water.
